Quick Gift Idea, etc.

How about another quick gift idea?  Here's a quick little set of bags:

This is the Take Along Bags pattern by Lazy Girl Designs.  The pattern includes a drawstring bag and a zippered bag.  The drawstring bag is approximately 4" x 6" and the zippered bag is approximately 14" x 8".   The zippered bag also has inside pockets.  These bags are appropriate for any one just by changing the fabric.

How about a bow tie blouse?  This one is rated as a beginner:

The Jasmine blouse pattern by Colette.  This is a lovely, bias cut blouse.  I think it would be cute in the
Light Pink Texture fabric by RJR.

All you need is 3 yards of fabric.  Feel free to ask about a kit for the yardage you need.

It's almost time for snowmen (well, in my part of the country).  Here's a cute home dec project:

This is the Snowman Placemat & Table runner pattern by Donna Ptak Collection.  This is a fat quarter friendly project.  It includes a placemat (17" x 12"), a table runner (35" x 12"), and napkin (17" x 17")

Quick Gift and Inspiration Galore...

Today's quick gift idea is:

This is the Koozie Kouture pattern by Indygo Junction.  This sewing pattern comes with various koozie patterns - water bottle, glass bottle, soda can, coffee cup, and wine glass.  Lots of opportunity to customize with embroidery, applique, or other decorative elements.

Now for some inspiration:

Isn't this a gorgeous pillow? It's the Poinsettia Decorative Pillow from Pottery Barn.  Unfortunately, this pillow is already sold out but that doesn't mean you couldn't recreate it.  Here are the details:  the pillow cover is 100% linen and 12" square with leaves sewn on to look like a poinsettia.  There is no mention of what the leaves are made from but when you zoom in, it looks like felt.

This would be fairly easy to reproduce.  Alternatively for the linen could be osnaburg in natural or a homespun in green.  Your choice of felt for the leaves and the bells.  How easy is that?

Let's move on to Spring inspiration.  Does anyone sew a season ahead?

This is from the Resort Collection at Neiman Marcus.  It's the Printed Dress with Solid Sleeves by Jason Wu.  The print on this dress is very vintage.  The description says that it's a 30's print.  This dress is made from silk.  Here's the details - jewel neckline with short raglan sleeves, fitted to the waistline, pleated A-line skirt, side pockets, with back zip closure.  Please note that this dress has a lot of trim.  You really need to visit Neiman Marcus and look at this dress up close.  The neckline, belt, and pockets are all trimmed. Price tag:  $2,300.00.

Here's some suggestions for similar looks:

We'll start with Peony Dress pattern by Colette.  This is a beginner pattern which has the fitted silhouette but is missing the raglan sleeves and a-line skirt (this would be easy to change).

If the raglan sleeves are of particular interest, then try:

The Go Anywhere Dress pattern by Sewn patterns. This is another cute alternative. Slightly different from the inspiration photo but it does have the raglan sleeve with a fitted silhouette.

Inspiration, Shoptalk....

Today's inspiration is from Red Valentino:

RED Valentino Ruffle-Bottom Gingham Dress

This is the Ruffled-Bottom Gingham Dress. Very simple. Very feminine. Details - Sleeveless dress in a blue and white gingham fabric with a scoop neckline, pencil skirt, with a flared ruffle. Fabric is a cotton/spandex blend. Price tag: $695.00

Search details: at the Neiman Marcus search for "Ruffle-Bottom Gingham Dress" to see the details.

This dress could be worn to work with a cardigan or jacket and then out to dinner with a change of accessories.

For a similar look, try the slip pattern (upper right-hand corner in about picture) from the Roundabout Dress pattern by Anna Maria Horner.  Add a double-layer ruffle on the bottom.  This pattern is cut on the bias so you would not be able to get the straight of grain look in the original.

New Faux Leather colors....

I received two new colors of faux leather today.  Here they are:

The first of the new colors is the Burgundy Faux Leather.  The fabric looks very much like the picture.  The dark burgundy color is the background with the black.

The second of the new color is the Tan faux leather.  This is a nice neutral colored fabric.

Below, is the color that I was able to re-stock:

This is a of the Brown Faux Leather.

All of this fabrics have a fabric content of 67% PUL,  28% Polyester, and 5% Rayon with a width of  56 inches.  They have a knit backing with a small width-wise stretch from 4" to 4 1/2".  No stretch lengthwise.

Colette Sewing Handbook has arrived...

The Colette Sewing Handbook is here.  Here is a little bit of information:

The book is divided into sections with the last 5 sections having projects.  There are 3 dresses, a skirt, and a blouse with each pattern drafted in the Colette's sizing of 0 to 18.  Here are the projects:

This is the Merinque Skirt.  The scalloped hem gives this simple straight skirt a very pretty, feminine look.

This is the Pastille Dress.  It is a simple, cap-sleeved sheath.  A great project for learning how to fit.

This is the Truffle Dress.  This is a very feminine dress.  You can make it very tailored or you make it a bit softly and flowing.  It's entirely up to you.

This is the Taffy Blouse.  It is a beautiful, floaty blouse with flutter sleeves.  This blouse is cut on the bias.  This may have be a new technique for some.

.This is the Licorice Dress. This is a sweet little dress that will just skim over your curves.

Additional information includes Getting Started which is information on basic tools, hand stitches, and sewing lessons.

Inspiration..

Fall is almost upon us.  Is your wardrobe really?  I wish I could say that mine was but it's not.

Here's today's inspiration.  It's an outfit from Magaschoni:

This is the Draped Cardigan and Flannel Pants.  The colors are perfect for fall and really it is the color combination that drew me to this outfit.  The colors are port (maroon) and dark charcoal gray.  The Draped Cardigan is wonderful and is made from rayon/wool knit.  Perfect for jeans/pants to skirts.  Price tag: $236.00.  The Flannel Pants are made from a wool blend and features a wide straight that falls from the hip.  Price tag:  $292.00.

Are you ready for Fall decorating?

Fall is one of my favorite times of year.  I love to decorate. With that in mind, I have created a new kit for the fall table.  The kit includes enough materials for 4 placemats and 8 napkins in gorgeous fall colors.  Instructions are included.  Here's pictures of the included fabrics:

This fabric is for the placemats.  The fabric on the left is the focus fabric with the fabric on the right being the backing and the binding.  They look wonderful together.

This fabric is for the semi-circle napkins.  The fabric on the right is an orange color and the fabric on the right is a golden yellow.  These fabrics will look wonderful folded together.

Here's the link to the Fall Placemats & Napkins kit.  Hope you like it.  Remember if you would like a different fabric substituted, just ask.  If it's the same collection, there would not be any additional charge.  If the substituted fabric is from a different collection, the kit price could change.

While you're looking around, check out the remaining kits.  There are many to choose from - hand embroidery, quilts, bags, etc.  Have fun looking!

Thoughts of Christmas....

Well it's July and Christmas will be here before we know it.  Have you thought about gifts that you would like to make?  the gifts you want to purchase? or given it any thought at all?  Unfortunately, I'm in the later category with my own gifts.  However if I'm going to make anything, I need to start now.  The gifts to my family will need to be ready before Thanksgiving this year.

I've put together a couple of gift ideas for eReader wraps using:

The Reader Wrap pattern by Atkinson Designs.  This pattern will fit e-Readers that are 5 1/2" x 8" or smaller such as the Nook or Kindle.  For the first kit, I used both the Reader Wrap pattern and the Cash and Carry pattern.  Use leftovers to create the Cash and Carry bag with the cables.  For the second kit, I used the Reader Wrap pattern.  Both kits contain everything you need to create the create the wrap except for the closure.  The pattern has two options for the closure.  The d-ring option is available for an additional charge.  Here's the fabric - black and cream - that has been chosen for the first round of kits:

More fabric options are coming.  Some kits will include the pattern and some will not.  If you're interested in creating your own fabric combination for a kit with or without the pattern, let me know.

Another look for fall....

Here's a look that is for the office (or so they say):

I love the overall look of this outfit by Milly.

Let's start with the jacket - The Colleen Peplum Jacket.  It is made out of cotton/spandex corduroy with a toggle at the waist.  The peplum hits below the hip.  The only thing I'm not too sure about it the hook & eye closure down the front.  I was unable to find a pattern exactly like this.  However, I did find Simplicity 2703 has a jacket with a similar feel (no hook & closure) with a label.  Corduroy is not listed as a recommended fabric.  Price tag on the Milly jacket - $395.00.

Now for the skirt - Deanna A-line Tweed Skirt.  It is made out of wool tweed blend, sits at the natural waist, has side pockets, and is knee length.  I think you could get a similar look using Joyce's Almost Bias Skirt pattern by Silhouettes, Amy's Skirt pattern by Silhouettes (I do not have this in stock but can order), (I realized that neither one of the Silhouettes skirt pattern will work with a wool tweed.) some of the Serendipity skirt patterns may work also.  The price tag on the Milly tweed skirt is $250.00.

Be sure to zoom in and check this outfit out.  There are lots of details that can easily be duplicated.
